These letter sounds and letter identification practice worksheets are aligned to the Science of Reading and are exactly what your preschool and Kindergarteners need to master letter names, letter sounds, and handwriting!
I designed these alphabet worksheets to create a letter names and sounds book for my preschool-aged daughter as I teach her the alphabet in a way that aligns to everything I’ve learned about the Science of Reading!

37 SOUNDS INCLUDED:

  • A-Z
  • A, E, I, O, U have separate pages for short sounds AND long sounds
  • QU (can be used in lieu of Q)

BONUS SOUNDS

  • CH
  • SH
  • TH (voiced)
  • TH (unvoiced)
  • WH

There are 148 worksheets included.

For each letter sound, you’ll find 4 worksheets.

The worksheet style and directions are intentionally the same for all 37 sounds so that students can focus on learning the new letter-sound correspondence at hand, VS using mental energy to figure out a new activity.

Worksheet 1 - For letter introductions

  • Both uppercase and lowercase letters
  • A mouth picture illustrating mouth formation while saying the sound
  • Pointing dots under each letter where students practice pointing to the letter and saying the sound
  • An area for students to discriminate if a picture (word) starts with the sound
  • Clipart note: All pictures include a clipart key on the page, in small print, upside down, on the bottom of the page so that any assisting adult can help determine the word a photo represents.

  • A mouth picture illustrating mouth formation while saying the sound
  • A line for practicing tracing the uppercase letter
  • A line for practicing tracing the lowercase letter

  • A starred line for them to freehand their best uppercase and lowercase letter

Worksheet 3 - Identification Practice, Handwriting Practice, and Beginning Sound Practice

Worksheet 4 - Sound Discrimination

  • A mouth picture illustrating mouth formation while saying the sound
  • Students will cut and paste 6 pictures, 3 of which will start with the beginning sound and 3 that will not. Students will sort and paste the pictures accordingly.
  • Clipart note: All pictures include a clipart key on the page, in small print, upside down, on the bottom of the page so that any assisting adult can help determine the word a photo represents.
**Please note that answer keys are not needed as there is a clipart key (see note above) on each individual worksheet. (This way, ANY adult can help!)
